This month (September 2021) we’re celebrating our Butcher Leon Rawson’s promotion to Butchery Supervisor.

Leon, now 21, started working for us four years ago as a Saturday boy and completed an apprenticeship in our Butchery last year.

Within a year of just passing his Level 2 Butchery Apprenticeship and being awarded with a certificate of excellence for his achievements, he has become our Butchery Supervisor.

Leon, from Taunton, said: “I have worked very hard since starting at Rumwell back in 2017, when I was just 17. Back then I was doing mostly cleaning, but it was a great experience that taught me lots and helped me go on to pass my Apprenticeship and I am delighted now to be celebrating my new role of Butchery Supervisor.”

We caught up with Leon recently to find out all about his new promotion.

So, Leon what does your job involve?

“It’s a very busy job and I tend to work 38-40 hours per week. Throughout the day I stock take, sort deliveries, do the breakdown of meats, serve customers, re-fill the counters, and take orders and phone calls.”

How do you feel about your new position?

“I am really enjoying my new position and this promotion feels like a great reward for all my previous work at Rumwell. I am very pleased with how it’s all going and believe I am adapting to my new role well.”

What do you enjoy about working here?

“I love how the job is very practical and hands on and keeps me very busy. I also enjoy interacting with customers and other team members.

“I would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone at Rumwell for their support because without them I wouldn’t be in this position. It’s a great place to work with plenty of opportunities for those who want to get on. I have received a lot of encouragement and help with my training and it’s really given me lots to be proud of.” Inspired by Leon’s story, interested in a role at Rumwell?
