The biggest annual, national celebration of British food and drink. It’s an annual event in the autumn held at the same time as the harvest festival – this year from September 22 until October 7.
It was founded in 2002 in response to the Foot & Mouth crisis and the fact that, though there were numerous food initiatives taking place across Britain at that time, there was no overall flagship event to bring them to the public’s attention.
We always like to promote our local suppliers. We’re big on using British produce and whenever possible sourcing from the county or the region.
Shoppers at our farm shop all-year-round are helping to back producers and suppliers from the Westcountry, many within a 40-mile radius of us. We support both nearby commercial suppliers and smaller producers, so we keep it as local and as British as possible here.
British Food Fortnight is a celebration of the diverse and delicious range of food available in Britain, as well as the health benefits of eating quality, fresh, seasonal and regionally distinct produce.
Food tastes better if it is transported as swiftly as possible from field to fork, plot to plate or sea to supper table and is healthier for you too, so it makes sense to use the wonderful local produce we have nearby us here in Somerset and the Westcountry, as well as backing British growers, producers, farmers and fishermen.
Did you know our Butchery counter sells our own free range, home reared pork and Aberdeen Angus beef, which is reared on our family farm just four miles away?
All our meat is slaughtered locally using humane methods. Our lamb, poultry and game is also locally produced. As well as curing our own bacon, we make our own burgers and sausages.
Our delicious free-range eggs are lovingly supplied by our happy hens, who roam under the apple trees while always having access to food, water and shelter in their houses.
We also make all our own pies, quiches, sausage rolls, scotch eggs, pasties, ready meals and salads. This British Food Fortnight make sure you stop by and fill your basket with British produce!
