Our sausages take home overall class champion cup

We’re celebrating this week (December 5, 2017) after being awarded the overall class champion cup for our sausages at the South West Sausage Championship.

We picked up the accolade at the South West Winter Fair, which took place yesterday (December 4, 2017) at Sedgemoor Auction Centre in North Petherton, for our traditional pork sausages.

Trevor Stark, our Butchery Manager, said: “We’re very pleased that this year we managed to scoop the overall class champion cup for our traditional pork sausages. This is a fantastic achievement. We also managed to take home a gold award for our pork, roast ginger and spring onion variety.

“The South West Sausage Championship forms part of the South West Winter Fair, which was founded in 2007. This was only our second year of entering the competition and is a step up from winning two silver awards last year.

“Our sausages are all made at the butchery counter with our own free range, home reared pork, which is reared on our family farm just four miles away.

“As well as these two varieties of sausages we also offer 14 others including pork and cracked black pepper, pork, hickory and chipotle sausages, pork and apple and the hotter pork firecracker. We have something for everyone.”

Trevor has worked in the butchery department for 12 years and his main role is to handle the preparation of the meat for display and overseeing the day-to-day running of the department. He also has an NVQ Level 2 in meat processing.

The South West Winter Fair is the major Christmas Primestock Show for the West Country. In addition to haltered cattle, there are classes for unhaltered cattle, lambs, pigs, lamb carcases and dressed poultry. The South West Sausage Championship forms part of the show.
