We were delighted to announce recently that we will be supporting Headway Somerset during 2018. We are so lucky to have the charity in the local area and throughout the year we’re going to support and raise awareness of their vital work.
Our fundraising efforts kicked off with our quiz on January 26, which managed to raise £540 for the charity! A fantastic amount.
We’ve also planned a car wash and even a charity afternoon tea to raise some money and are signing up to take part in the charitie’s Dragon Boat Race in June. We would like to raise at least £1,750 for the organisation throughout the year.
Headway Somerset provides social and cognitive rehabilitation for adults with brain injury and support and respite for their families through its four Brain Injury Centres based in Bridgwater, Henton, Yeovil & Taunton.
The charity takes referrals for anyone over the age of 18-years-old and provides a range of individually tailored programmes designed to maximise their quality of life, independence and self-esteem. It also works closely with family members who are often the main carers which can be very stressful and can lead to family breakdown due to the issues related to living with a brain injury.
Its 1:1 Community Outreach Service, is designed to give much more intensive one-to-one support to clients who need help to work towards some degree of independence. This might include developing social networks in their local community, providing them with domestic skills, helping them access employment or education or helping their families to deal with the stress that brain injury can bring to a family.
